LINGUA OBSCURA

Issue No. 1: Baybayin and the Echoes of Forgotten Scripts

Lingua Obscura is a tactile, ongoing publication project devoted to the preservation and poetic revival of endangered and forgotten languages — especially those tied to indigenous and ancestral cultures.
This inaugural issue shines a spotlight on Baybayin, the ancient pre-colonial Filipino script that once flourished across the islands before being nearly erased by Spanish colonization.

In an era of rapid digital flattening, Lingua Obscura insists on slowness, touch, and reverence.
This first issue gives voice to a script nearly lost — not as a static artifact, but as a living, breathing system still practiced and protected by modern creatives.
It invites readers not just to see the language, but to feel its pulse.
